When:  Dec 16, 2026 from 20:00 to 21:00 (ET)

The session will focus on use of erbium and diode lasers in the respective wavelength ranges: 2780 nm and 400 – 980 nm for vital pulp therapy (VPT) applications and photobiomodulation (PBM) effects on the pulp. Effects that will be explored include supplemental pulpal anesthesia and desensitization, surface disinfection of dentin for direct and indirect pulp caps, and precise ablation of inflamed pulpal layers during partial and complete pulpotomies. Future applications and rationale for using PBM as an adjunct to VPT will also be discussed.

Participants will be able to:

  • describe techniques using erbium and diode lasers as adjuncts for pulpal desensitization and supplemental pulpal anesthesia during endodontic treatment.
  • describe the use of erbium and diode lasers as adjuncts to burs during caries removal for treating the pulp either by indirect pulp caps, direct pulp caps, partial pulpotomy, and complete pulpotomy.
  • discuss the intended stimulatory or pain reducing effects of PBM on the pulp depending on the energy dosages applied.
