A Career Built on Curiosity and Reinvention

Dr. Froum’s professional journey began in biomedical research, where he enrolled in a PhD program focused on angiogenesis in oncology at NYU Langone Health. His passion for science and patient care ultimately led him into dentistry, where he completed specialty training in periodontics at SUNY Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine

Over the years, he established a respected periodontal practice in Midtown Manhattan and became widely recognized for his expertise in implant dentistry and periodontal therapy. Alongside clinical practice, he remained deeply involved in dental education and literature, contributing to the advancement of evidence-based care and integrative concepts linking oral and systemic health.

The COVID-19 pandemic marked a pivotal turning point in his career. Witnessing the widespread effects of systemic inflammation and chronic disease inspired Dr. Froum to pursue advanced education in naturopathic and functional medicine. That decision ultimately led to the development of an integrative care model designed to bridge periodontal therapy with comprehensive whole-body wellness.

Leadership in Education and Clinical Innovation

Today, Dr. Froum serves as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Periodontics at SUNY Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. He is also Chief Editor of Perio Implant Advisory and serves on the editorial board of Dental Economics.

His extensive credentials include:

  • Diplomate, American Academy of Periodontology
  • Diplomate, Academy of Osseointegration
  • Diplomate, American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine
  • Fellowship Candidate, American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine

As a clinical leader in integrative periodontal and functional medicine care, Dr. Froum continues to develop protocols that explore the connection between oral health, systemic inflammation, cognitive decline, and early-stage Alzheimer’s disease. His work reflects a growing movement within dentistry that recognizes oral health as a critical component of total body wellness.

Inspired by Lifelong Learning

When asked what advice he would share with colleagues, Dr. Froum’s response is both simple and powerful:

“Never stop learning. Knowledge is power, and it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. Returning to training after establishing a career in periodontics was challenging, but ultimately one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made.”

That mindset of continuous growth has been a defining characteristic throughout his career.

Beyond the Practice

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Froum values staying active and making time for family and adventure. Whether he is at the gym, teaching his sons how to golf, traveling to experience new cultures, or swimming with sharks, he embraces life with the same curiosity and energy that drives his professional work.

And while his childhood dream of becoming a professional football player may have changed direction, his passion for pushing boundaries and pursuing excellence clearly never faded.

A Question for Fellow Specialists

Dr. Froum leaves colleagues with an important question that reflects the future of dentistry:

“How are you evolving your clinical approach to address the growing impact of systemic inflammation and chronic disease on oral health?”

As dentistry continues to evolve, leaders like Dr. Froum are helping shape a more comprehensive and patient-centered future for the profession.
